If you are planning to extend your home - Read-On...
Before contacting a good local architect it would be a great idea to sketch as many ideas and draft drawings as you can, as you know your home better than anyone; this will also assist your architect to visualise the plans/ideas you have.
Also look at other homes in your street/area to see if you can use similar ideas - or enhance them to suite your own requirements.
Don't forget to add your own creativity inside and/or outside.
1. You'll need an Architect to produce your drawings which is what your builder will need to provide you with an accurate quotation. Your architect will guide you on Planning Permission and Building Regulation requirements - This can be also established with some research on the Planning Portal.
2. If structural walls are being removed a Structural Engineers report will be needed.
3. Once you have the Drawings & Structural Report you will be in a good position to approach good local builders to provide you with quotations on completing the work.
4. Your planning authority is Basildon Council as you may already know, their website http://www.basildon.gov.uk/article/686/Planning-Services will be of use where needed.
